What do you think of KIN Rog?

I have just taken a break from it as it has been in my daily rotation since I got it.
With courage, strength, faith and hope we will face one day at a time.

Kev, i'd like to share your enthusiasm for Kin as we agree on a lot of things, but having heard it only a couple of times up to now, i've certainly enjoyed what i've heard but not enough to keep it on rotation, as there's a lot of other stuff i'm trying to catch up on at the moment. Have been listening to that Cory Hawthorne album King Of The Broken Hearts a lot though as it's really grown on me, he certainly is an artist to watch out for.

Bachman- Turner - Live Show on PBS. I suppose you'd call it a guilty pleasure. Some nice songs but I never actually owned one of the albums. I do have just about every Guess Who cd, though.

I'm not Rog but I like the Kin cd - although some tunes work better for me than others.

I'm listening to my I-tunes library on shuffle right now and the Vince Gill tune "Just Pleasing You" is currently playing.

Gaslight Anthem/Handwritten-One of my favorite newer bands. Slashing guitars, Springsteen/Waits gutter-like lyrics. Maybe not as melodic as the last two albums.

The Clash/London Calling-World's best punks not afraid to surround their angry anthems in melodies.

Jimmy Cliff/Rebirth-Classic reggae

Chuck Prophet/Temple Beautiful-Can't go wrong with a song called Willie Mays Is Up At Bat

Deer Tick/War Elephant-Another favorite newish band. Less rockier than the ones that came after and yes it took me awhile to get used to the nasalized vocals

been a while, so I have a few records to blather on about...

Bonnie Raitt - Slipstream - a surprise. I've thought of Raitt's recent records as being a bit on the slick side. this one is much more raw, and she's a blueswoman here, not a AOR artist. real good, if you dig the blues.

James Morrison - Songs For You, Truths For Me - I'd heard the name before...his record is pretty unique for these days. sort of a folk - soul thing. great voice. good songs. tight music. good combo. recommended.

John Mayer - Born and Raised - I was so prepared not to like this one. Mayer seems to have outgrown his Pop and guitar hero phases, and he's delivered a mostly acoustic collection of songs that are pretty damned good. does he revert back to his mush mouth singing here and there?...yes...does he write dumb lyrics?...yes...does he indulge himself sometimes?...yes...the record is strong enough so these things do not matter that much.

Lisa Marie Presley - Storm and Grace - one of the spookiest records I've ever heard. not sure if that was the intent, but that's the result. LMP sings convincingly throughout, her voice dealing out some sort of goth - blues combo. the music is low key, blues based, with modern touches. interesting stuff.

Santana - Shape Shifter - never thought I'd find a new Santana record entertaining, considering the stuff Carlos Santana's been up to in recent times, but this one is not only that, but I'd put "very" in there. It's instrumental, and it's reminiscent of the early band. plenty of fiery playing, nice jazz touches, and percussion wall to wall. if you like[d] this band, recommended....

Sara Watkins - Sun Midnight Sun - best known for her work in Nickel Creek, this young woman turns out a record a complete surprise to me. there are some echoes of her former band, but for the most part, the record sounds like she's been a Fleetwood Mac fan from a formative age. this isn't slick, like a FM record...it's indie, after all, but this girl wants to be Stevie Nicks, with a fiddle, of course.
recommended...

Tom Jones - Spirit In the Room - the old boy has lost most of that big voice. he can call up something when he wants to, but that's not often. he's singing the blues now, and very well, thank you. a good collection, if an old guy singing the blues is your thing....
