Do you think any of todays artists will ever have a set list like the this to play in 50 years. That's why God made the radio. Think of how great they would sound if Carl and Dennis where still with us.

Could not agree more on all counts.

No need to pick on today's artists.

Can you name more than a handful of artists-now or ever-who would have a set list like this to play? Especially if you're counting hit singles.

As for the set list, real good. Though I've preferred Brian's set lists from past shows.

Impressive set list, a nice mix of hits and lesser known music. I hope "This Whole World" stays throughout the tour. Would really enjoy hearing the harmonies of this group on that song.

The new single is an even better surprise. I have no idea who wrote it but it's a nice track both musically and lyrically. It just sounds like classic Beach Boys. Would have been great if Carls voice was part of the mix, and there may be some studio wizardry involved, but a great blend of voices.

I hope the rest of the album is as good.

here's a Wikipedia entry detailing the new Beach Boys record...not sure how much is true...guess we'll see...

That's Why God Made the Radio
Studio album by The Beach Boys
Released June 5, 2012
Recorded 2011–2012
Genre Rock, pop, surf rock
Label Capitol
Producer Brian Wilson

That's Why God Made the Radio is The Beach Boys' upcoming twenty-ninth studio album and their first album of all-original material in 20 years.[1] The album is part of the band 50th Anniversary and upcoming tour, and will feature eleven tracks. Brian Wilson will act as producer of the album, with Mike Love as executive producer.

Background
In late 2010 reports began to circulate that the surviving members of the Beach Boys would reunite for a 50th Anniversary tour and album. Despite some uncertainty [2] and initial denials,[3] on December 16, 2011 it was announced that Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks would reunite for a new album and 50th anniversary tour in 2012 that would include a performance at the New Orleans Jazz Festival in April.[4]

Wilson and Love discussed the upcoming album and tour in a interview on February 16, 2012. The duo said the album was halfway done with Wilson doing the writing and stating that all of the songs will flow into each other. The album will end with a Pet Sounds- and Smile-inspired suite. One track titled, "That's Why God Made the Radio" is filled with classic Beach Boys harmonies and one of their best songs ever according to Wilson.[5]

According to Bruce Johnston, all of the songs are originals, no cover songs, no guest musicians on the album. Each band member sings lead on at least one of the songs while Johnston contributed one song titled, "She Believes in Love Again", a song he wrote in 1985 however he said he was unsure if the song would make the final cut since the label picks the album's tracks, not the band. Johnston compares the album to one of the band's least-successful albums but fan favorite, Sunflower while Al Jardine said the album is "very lush, very PetSound-ing".[6] [7]

The first single from the album, "That's Why God Made the Radio" made its national radio debut April 25, 2012 on ESPN's Mike and Mike in the Morning.[8][9]. It was released to the bands YouTube channel later that same day, with accompanying lyrics. In addition the song has been released and is now available as a single in digital outlets such as iTunes and Amazon.

Who are the Beach Boys?

Postby Jiff » Thu Apr 26, 2012 11:03 pm

Nice song, great vocals. I looked and looked, but I guess the writer is a secret.

"No guest musicans on the album." Are singers considered musicians? If so, and it's just the 5 guys in the promo pics doing the new single, what's with the multitude of other singers singing with them at the Grammys and in the touring band?

"No guest musicians on the album". So who are the Beach Boys? All the promo photos show just 5 guys. If those 5 are the Beach Boys, who plays what instruments?

I'm going to hazard a guess and say Brian wrote the music and Love wrote the words...as in the old days...
as for the "no guest musicians" remark..that's a little confusing, since it's been said in more than one place that the five official Beach Boys have been joined by key members of Brian's studio / road band in the recording sessions...
