Levon Helm,

Just copied this from levon's web site.

Dear Friends,
Levon is in the final stages of his battle with cancer. Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey.

Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration... he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage...

We appreciate all the love and support and concern.
From his daughter Amy, and wife Sandy

We are losing so many of our musical "heros". As we get older we lose more and more.

I saw this scroll across the bottom of a newscast last night. Very sad to hear. He had a such a distinctive voice.

Levon was a brilliant drummer, an evocative vocalist, an incredibly cool actor, and he's one of the few famous persons I would have liked to know personally. He was so cool at the two Ramble shows to deflect attention from himself and make sure that the other players got time in the spotlight. He was the heart and soul of the Band. So sad to see him go, but what a legacy he has left behind and he is finally "released" (as they ended the Ramble encores).

Don't want no sorrow
For this old orphan boy
I don't want no crying
Only tears of joy
I'm gonna see my mother
Gonna see my father
And I'll be bound for glory
In the morning
When I go away

I'm sitting on the toilet
With my sunglasses on
Wondering what you are up to
