Beach Boys - That's Why God Made The Radio -

I'm not going to say it's a classic, but it's damned good, better than anyone could have hoped for, imo.
the vocal blend is still there, even without Carl. they had a lot of help with the harmonies, but the vocals are gorgeous. Brian sounds great, even hitting a falsetto here and there. Love and Jardine sound good, too. even if this is studio wizardry, it still sounds like the BB's of the past.
this is Brian at what is the top of his game these days. some great songs, particularly the last few at the end of the record.
Brian has said that his band does a great job, but it doesn't compare to "the guys". he's right.
"Summer's Gone" an instant BB's classic, evoking "Caroline, No"...
if you're a fan, I recommend you buy it...

Ive been listening to Poco (of Course) and a lot of chicago lately. Also, been taking ukulele lessons to eventually learn some Poco, Jimmy Buffett, and Zack Brown. :D Soft rock & country genres mainly. What about you all?

Just got a bunch of new cds in the mail-

Beach Boys- That's Why God Made The Radio. Generally a very good album. Brian sounds a bit mush-mouthed on one track and a couple of others just don't make it but overall a good effort.

Rhett Miller- The Dreamer. sounds like his other albums- not bad just not a home run.

Joe Walsh- Analog Man. Definitely sounds like a Joe Walsh album- song subjects aren't quite as crazy as Joe has settled down a bit.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse- Americana It's not your Wilco . son Volt, Jayhawks Americana. It's Neil's take on some old- very old tracks- like Oh, Susannah ; She'll be coming Around The Mountain and God Save The Queen (yes that one) among others. I really wanted to dislike this one because of Neil's actions on BS but while it's not my favorite by him it definitely has it's moments.

Patti Smith- Banga This one sounds just like Patti Smith. If you like Horses, etc you'll love this one.

Shawn Colvin- All Fall Down. Just another fine album by Shawn. I love her voice. I really wish I hadn't missed her recent concert with Mary Chapin Carpenter

Kin : Songs of Mary Kann & Rodney Crowell - V/A like Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Kris Kristofferson and others. Like many albums of this type there are great tracks, OK tracks and some that miss the mark. If you are a Rodney fan this cd will probably please you, though.

Brandi Carlile - Bear Creek. A bit disappointed in this one. Seemed a bit off from her earlier sound to me.

Alejandro Escovedo - Big Station Just another fine outing for Alejandro. It sems hard for him to have a bad one.

Paul Simon- Graceland 25th Anniversary Edition . Should have skipped this . Not as much unreleased music here as I thought there was. However the original album still holds up as does the controversy over it's recording.
