Zog Days of Summer

AUGUST 2011
Well, August is about a week old and the heat wave has finally broken here in Missouri. It rained every day for the last week, temperatures have dropped a good ten or fifteen degrees, and everywhere you look there’s thick green forest. It’s good to be home.
We had a great run last weekend. The Count Basie Theater on Thursday, (which holds @1,400), was a sell-out! It was a long night of music with Firefall, Pure Prairie League and Poco, but everyone stayed to the end. Then Poco and Firefall played the Birchmere and it was nearly a sell-out. Friday night at the Birchmere was as close to a perfect set as I can remember. It was just one of those magical evenings. Saturday we played a new theater called The Flying Monkey in Plymouth, New Hampshire. Three shows in a row and three days of flying and driving…whewww!
Just like we planned, I was in Nashville at the end of July, but we didn’t get a chance to work on the Poco CD. Jack and I got a new project from our friend Paul Gagne at Weston Woods that needed to be finished right away. So we spent the week writing and recording the music for a new children’s DVD based on a book called “Children Make Terrible Pets”. There are times it’s a frustrating search for the right instrument or the right notes, but it’s really fun playing crazy things you never dreamed you’d ever play.
Next weekend we’re in Park City, Utah and Sedalia, Colo. Both are outdoor concerts and should be a blast. The Colorado show gives Mary and me another chance to see Mom. I hope she doesn’t sit in the front row and cry all the way through ‘Crazy Love’ or ‘Neil Young Is Not My Brother’. Mothers!
Anyhow, hope you guys are doing well and aren’t too depressed about the stock market. Remember it’s always a wise investment to listen to great music! Well, Zog and I are going fishin' now…see you soon.
