Fall 2011

Wow, September was a busy month. We no sooner got back from Colorado then it was time for the Missouri shows. First, the Boulder Theater show on Saturday night was one of those nights I wish every Poconut could be there. The Theater was packed, the sound was perfect, Pure Prairie League was great and Richie joined us for almost half the set. I sure wish I could twist his arm and get him to pay more shows with us!
On Sunday we gathered up my relatives and attended Richie’s Church service. It was Mary and her Mom Dell, my sister Cori and her husband Joe, along with me and my Mom Ruth. We brought Mary’s Mom with us so she and my Mom could meet. I sat in for the musical part of the service. It was Richie and Scott’s regular gang and I added some Dobro licks. The music was so cool…everyone sang along and there were some great harmonies going down.
Then we flew home just in time to get ready for the Hoedown at Red Bluff. There was somewhere around a hundred Poconuts as far as we could count. Both coasts were represented, as well as, David Smith and Val from England. We all sang silly songs and roasted hot dogs over the campfire.
The next day’s show was Old Miner’s Day in nearby Viburnum. Mary and Zog were our opening act and it was a tough one to follow, (no doubt she has pix up on his Facebook page). Despite the fact we were in the Elmer P. Beard gymnasium, (shades of 1968), everyone had a good time. Michael, with help from Jack and Mary, even rewrote his ‘Drinkin’ song to the story of Elmer P. Beard. It was a huge hit. It should be on his next solo CD.
Sunday was the big concert with Gypsy and Dave Mason in St. Louis. It was for our old friends at KSHE radio. They’ve played Poco for as long as we’ve recorded music. There were somewhere in the neighborhood of 5,000 fans enjoying the concert and the beautiful weather. I got a kick, as usual, meeting up with Dave’s bass player Gerald and drummer Alvino. (Not so much Dave). He’s lucky to have those guys.
My son Will drove up from Nashville with Michael and Jack on Thursday and tomorrow he and I’ll be driving back to Tennessee. Then I’ll fly out of Nashville to Prescott, AZ with Jack, George and Michael for the next show and fly back to Nashville to work on the new CD. Still hoping to get it released before Christmas! We’ll do our best… Oh, and Rick just booked three new shows in January.
See you soon.
