FEBRUARY 2011

Feb. 2011
I don’t know about you guys, but we’ve had about all the snow it takes to make it a winter here in Missouri! Zog and Mary love the snow. They spend hours chasing snowflakes and making snow angels. I would need some serious drugs! Does anyone have Charlie Sheen’s phone number? My job is to keep the fireplace blazing and the walkways cleared.
We were lucky to get into Philadelphia last weekend for our show in New Hope. It did take 14 hours for me and Mary to get there, but that’s not so unusual these days. We stayed at ‘The Stephan House Inn’ a really cool historic bed and breakfast in downtown New Hope and had a little time to check out where Washington crossed the Delaware and where the locals tried their best to convince Michael Webb that the Rolling Stones weren’t involved in the Revolutionary War. The show was a benefit that was virtually sold-out, raising lots of money for local causes.
I’m happy to report the first sessions in Nashville for the new CD went really well. We cut three new songs of mine and another two from Jack and Michael. The studio, right on Music Row, was so comfortable and the ‘vibe’ was so inspiring I can’t wait to get back! There’s some footage we shot during the recording that’s found its way to Utube, if you’re interested. We completely finished one track and the rest need final vocals and a few overdubs. The overdubs will probably be done at Michael’s eclectic garage studio. We’re set to start recording more tracks starting the day after my birthday, (which I’ll get to spend with Will and Sara), and then we’ll get to work on some of those overdubs. I’m pretty excited about sharing the new music with you guys. I’ve written some songs that are a big departure from what I’ve written in the past. I think you’ll be surprised. And we want to thank those of you who have made some suggestions for the new CD. The suggestion that we use Kelly Pickler to ‘round out’ the vocals is definitely inspired, and Keith Urban’s picture on the cover of the CD would definitely help spur sales. Keep those suggestions coming!
We now have a Poco Facebook page-Poco Rustyyoung. PLEASE BE MY FRIEND! I’ve got to beat Richie’s friends count! I’m going to use Keith Urban’s picture for my profile and see if that helps. All this stuff is so foreign to me. Thankfully, Mary’s got a pretty good handle on it. For example, I was stunned when I saw Bill Wyman wanted to be my friend. Then Mary told me he didn’t really want to be my friend. He must be trolling for…well you know what. At least there’s no one claiming I owe them money yet! Neil Young must not be on Facebook.
Well, tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday. Mary and I have a few friends coming over to watch the game. Chuck and Jane, (Chuck manages The Wildwood Lodge) will be among the gang. Although we won’t be involved with Wildwood this year, we have received an offer to play The Argosy in St. Louis in June instead. That should be fun and there are more MO shows in the works. This year is going to be a great one!
See Ya’ soon!
