Oct./Nov. News

Fall is here and the leaves have all turned or fallen in our gutters or on the yard. Thank God for that leaf blower I bought last summer! I work my way across the yard herding the leaves into mounds of red and yellow. Then Mary and Zog dive deep into the piles and peek out to see if I’m watching.
We played Wildwood the last weekend of October. All our friends showed up, some from as far away as England and Ireland! There were couples from California, Arizona, Colorado, Ohio, Illinois, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and more. Will and Sara drove in from Nashville and Mary’s Mom even made it. But it was sad to look around and not see Mark and Lisa this year. He was always such a part of the weekend. We dedicated his favorite song to him each night and Dr. Al had some very touching words about Mark when he introduced the band.
As sad as that was, there were fun shenanigans at Wildwood that weekend too. Before singing ‘Neil Young Is Not My Brother’ we got Bob Belke to come onstage and repeat the story he had just told me about arguing with a repairman working at his house. The repairman noticed the Poco T-shirt Bob was wearing and commented that like Bob and Ellen, he too was a big Poco fan and a big fan of Neil Young’s brother Rusty. Bob did his best to set the repairman straight, but in the end he didn’t think the guy believed him. Everyone cracked up!
When the weekend was over and everyone was headed home, hurricane Sandy hit. A lot of the Poconuts from the east coast ended up having a hard time getting home. Flights were canceled and airports were closed. Bob and Ellen rented a car and drove all the way back to Pennsylvania. Mark and Sharon had to stay in St. Louis until they could get a flight back to Connecticut. I heard Ginger showed David and Val, (English types), around the town. I wish we could have hung out with those who were stranded, but we’d rented a house in Steelville and we were hard at work on the new CD. Mary came by and made two short videos of us hard at work on a song called ‘Rockin’ Horse’. You can check it out on Facebook or the Home Page.
We’re flying out Tuesday to play four acoustic shows up in the northeast, unless the weather gets in the way again. So far it looks pretty good. Anyhow, when we get back I’ll drive down to Nashville and we’ll do the final mixes on the CD. We’re doing our best to get downloads available before Christmas and ship the CD’s shortly thereafter. Can’t wait!
See you soon… Rusty
