October 2012

I’m back from Nashville now. Of course, the big news is Will’s son was born on the 24th. That means not only have I officially joined AARP, become eligible for Denny’s Senior Menu Club, Medicare, Social Security, early boarding on Southwest flights…now I’m a grandfather.
I think he looks like a Young. He looks exactly like Will did when he was first born. Willy is beyond happy! I wonder if he’ll be musical.
The recording in Nashville went well. We worked at Michael’s studio this time. Next the guys are going to stay after the Wildwood shows to finish the overdubs-which are mainly background vocals. Looks like the CD will include eleven or twelve new songs and NO drum solos! Speaking of drums, we played George’s Drum Convention while I was in Nashville. He held it at the Fairgrounds and there was quite a turnout. Lots of booths selling things like drumsticks-I was a little disappointed when I found out they weren’t the ice cream kind OR the turkey ones. There was lots of cymbalism and endless drum soloing, with drummers trying to make some kind of impression on other drummers. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Wish they would’ve had Funnel Cake.
We’re leaving tomorrow for Bakersfield, just one show at the Bright House Network Amphitheater. Then home for a few days before we play concerts in Ohio and Wildwood. Bob says the Wildwood shows are selling really well, that’s going to be lots of fun.
Well, the leaves are starting to turn here and you know it’s going to be a spectacular fall. I’m looking forward to sitting by a cozy fireplace fire, playing my new guitar, listening to the rain on the roof, watching for Eagles soaring high above the river below, and working on my book.
What a life! If only there was funnel cake!
Rusty
